TIRE AND WHEEL CLEANING
Wheels and tires
are similar to the engine compartment in that they pick up an abundance
of road grime, tar, and brake dust. Because of the various types
of metals used in motorcycle wheels, caution should be used in cleaning.
Some wheels will have aluminum rims with stainless steel spokes,
while others can be solid billet aluminum. Err on the side of caution
and start with the least aggressive method. Then, and only then,
proceed to more aggressive measures if needed. Start with a premium
wash and move on to multi-purpose wheel cleaner for heavier contamination.
As with the engine compartment never allow wheel cleaners to dry
on the wheels. Shampoos also should not be allowed to dry because
they can leave a film and cause streaking later in the polishing
process. Always rinse thoroughly and often.
